Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 3.00 g, 11 h), Rome, circa 320. CONSTAN-TINVS AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to left, seen from behind, holding spear in his right hand and shield with his left. Rev. VIRTV-S AVGG / P - R / R S Campgate with closed doors and three turrets. RIC 177. Extremely rare, one of only three known examples. Somewhat rough and with minor weakness on the reverse, otherwise, about very fine.

This is one of only three known examples with this bust of Constantine I paired with a 'three turrets, gate closed' reverse. Another resides in the Ramskold Collection, while a third example is kept in the KHM, Vienna. All three are from officina S.
